Common Plumbing Service Problems and FAQs:
Why is my toilet running?
A running toilet that continuously feeds the tank, or even occasionally refills unexpectedly can be an annoyance but it doesn’t seem like a big deal…until the water bill shows up. If not addressed quickly, that steady stream of water into the tank can add up fast and your water bill will go up by hundreds of dollars. Luckily, a running toilet can easily be fixed by an experienced plumber.
Where is the leak coming from?
Water leaks in your home often start with a water stain on a ceiling or wall. Water leaks can be infuriating to track down because water will often travel over joists or other structural material and will not be visible until it stains the ceiling or walls in your home. Each leak must be inspected and dealt with individually. An experienced plumber can check your house and determine where the leak is coming from.
How long does a water tank last?
Most hot water tanks have an expected lifetime of 10 years but the tank in your home can have a shorter or longer lifespan. Extend the life of a traditional hot water tank by flushing out the tank at least once a year. Sediments from the water can build up over time and interfere with the heater’s efficiency and the amount of water available at any time.
My toilet makes strange noises, what do I do?
In situations like this, 99.99% of the time, the problem is in the main line and it is clogged. If you continue to run water from any faucet, the water will appear in the floor drain. In this case, you will need to clear the main line.
Why is my water brown?
It’s easy to take clean water for granted. If you have discoloured water, your hot water tank may need to be replaced. Discoloured water can also be caused by rusted pipes, which means you may have to have the pipes replaced. However, this is only the case if you have galvanized steel pipes in your home.
What can I put in my garburator?
Just because something can go through the garburator doesn’t mean it should. Large items can create a clog further down the line. The best practice is to run cold (not hot) water through the garburator before placing any food in it and keeping the water running throughout the grind cycle. You should also keep the water running for a few seconds after the garburator has been turned off. Never put a whole chicken or bowl of pasta in the garburator.
Why are my pipes making a "knocking" noise?
Knocking pipes are caused by poorly secured piping or by air bubbles being compressed in the pipes. Loose pipes can be secured with proper fittings so that they don’t shake during operation. If the problem is being caused by air bubbles, water hammer arrestors can be installed to give air bubbles room to expand harmlessly.
Can I add a sink or plumbing fixture to any room?
Adding a sink, washing machine, or other plumbing fixture to an existing finished space can be difficult. This depends on the existing setup: the location and nature of the current supply and drain lines, as well as the building codes.
Our home services technicians will take care of all your plumbing repairs, drain cleaning, and heating repair needs.
