6 Plumbing Tools You Should Know Even If You Are Not A Plumber

Although plumbing often requires a high degree of expertise, there are some tasks, especially those related to cleaning and maintenance, that you can do yourself!

In this article, we are going to show you some of the tools that Calgary plumbers have in their plumber’s toolbox.

A common tool in many professions, including plumbing, a wrench can be used to tighten and loosen nuts and bolts, and its opening can adjust inch by inch to different sizes.

Pipe Wrench

With a function like that of the wrench, a pipe wrench is a tool used only for plumbing. It’s most commonly used to screw pipes and has a serrated and adjustable jaw that can latch tightly to grip around tubes or other cylindrical parts.

Pipe Cutter

An essential tool in plumbing if you want a professional finish. With different sizes and use, there is no pipe that cannot be cut by this tool!  A pipe cutter can be used to redirect your pipes to different areas of the house and has different molds to cover different pipe diameters.

Grip Pliers

As the name suggests, Grip Pliers offer exceptional gripping capability – ideal for handling parts that have lost their original shape or are too slippery to handle, such as rounded nuts, or wet elements.

A blowtorch is used to weld pipes together or to other parts.  Blowtorches can be fed with gas, propane or butane. It is very important to pay attention to the appropriate safety measures to avoid accidents.

Pincers or Tongs

Generally used to extract tips or nails and cut all types of wires, the pincer is a very useful tool when it comes to fastening elements that we can’t do with a plier. It’s smaller opening and ability to extend makes it a key part of a plumber’s basic toolbox.

The fastest, most comfortable and easy way to solve any plumbing problems in your home is to always call a local plumber, especially if you don’t have the time or knowledge. But there are some tasks that you can do very easily if you know what tools to use which can help make a plumber’s visits less frequent and serious.
